manifesting my next career move

In December I was given a simple task from my manager to prepare a 1 page document detailing the key areas that I have worked on since my appointment six months prior. When you first start a new job you generally walk around a little lost, unsure on the office dynamics and what it is exactly you will be doing – let’s be honest, a job description never really outlines your specific tasks and how your involvement works. My initial thoughts where, ‘eeeekkk… what am I going to write about, what have I actually done?’ After that moment of panic lifted... Read More

gratitude changes everything

I have heard a number of times amongst my family, friends and online community, and me, the words to describe twenty sixteen have been around anxiety, stress, being stretched and simply tired. It has felt like a big year and drawing to the end is leaving a trail of exhaustion, dwelling in energy that takes a little nudge to get off the ground. 2016 was even nominated for the 'crumb' of the year award by Matt and Alex on Triple J.  It is nice to know we are not alone...  I don’t recall exactly when this happened but it was some time when the ‘A’... Reintroducing myself.

As I have been away from this space for a little while. I thought it might be nice to reintroduce myself to you and what I have been up to over the last year and a few things that you may not know about me. Hi, I’m Claire Colebeck. I have an almost two year old son who is incredibly playful, light-hearted and chilled (when he is not throwing a tantrum, which he is becoming incredibly good at). I got married in January this year. I have been to Japan (honeymoon), QLD (a few times), visited family in country South... Read More

busy is a drug

Everyone is time poor. Whether you are working a high profile job, a stay at home mum, a student with a full study load, hey, even a high school student. We all fit under the same umbrella of having absolutely no time and it is all relative to your own situation. It really bugs my boat when you ask how someone is going their reaction is ‘busy’ making you feel like you need to reply with ‘yeah, me too’. Why do we do this? Why do we put being ‘busy’ on a pedestal leaving us feeling that if we are... Read More

the personal brand project

SHARING A WIN But first, a bit of background. This post demonstrates how a little idea can grow and develop and build and become something real. With a little bit of elbow grease, determination and passion, anything is possible. The story starts when Sarah Poppy and I spent a few years working together and both chaired the Australian Marketing Institute Emerging Marketers Committee in South Australia. Through our involvement in this committee and through mentoring young professionals, we found we where continuously asked the same questions around personal branding, finding their feet in the corporate world and how we landed our positions. We where asked time and... Read More

shaping ourselves

After reading this quote I started thinking about how we ACTUALLY do have this idea about who we want to be and how we want to live our lives. I went through high school and uni with this image about how my life would look and what would make up the 'perfect' life and all my ducks needed to be in a row for me to be happy. It is incredible how a quote can really hit the nail on the head. I started writing to share my experiences, give advice and willingness help other find their path in their... Read More

the perfect balance

The age old work life balance. Has never meant more to me. Previously, I have never felt I needed to pay too much attention to this area. I felt the balance between my work and life was perfect for me and I could read the signs for when I needed to adjust the balance and could do that reasonable easy. Currently, I have found that finding time is incredibly difficult. Admittedly, I was a little naive as to how much 'free' time I would have with a new baby and in turn how much energy I would have at the end... Read More

finding motivation

Over the last couple of weeks I have been exposed to a completely different world and my headspace and initial focus has changed. I have sat down to fixate into this world and find my motivation sway to everything baby... Initially I was getting rather frustrated with myself and telling myself off for not utilising my time well and getting easterly distracted, until I just let myself go. I took a deep breath and just rolled with it. I didn't get too caught up in it all and let it be... this enabled me to ease my way back into... Read More

how I planned for maternity leave

Planning for maternity leave is not easy. I went around in circles for quite some time, trying to decide what would be the best thing to do for both my family and my work place. I was asked by Working Mums Collective about how I planned my maternity leave - I thought it would be worth sharing as it is one of the challenges I faced in my career... How did you work out when you would commence maternity leave and how long you would take off?  In the early stages of pregnancy, I found this decision really difficult and... Read More

welcome back

It is without a lie that I have had the most life changing, magical, indescribable experience over the last 5 weeks. Nothing can compare. I don’t know how else to explain it… No longer is it just Russ and myself, we have a huge responsibility that entered into our lives an hour before Christmas day and changed the way we view the world. We cannot explain the emotions and joy that is among us and are so ready to (and super excited) engage in parenthood. But I wouldn’t be being honest with you if I didn’t say it hasn’t come... 2014 is upon us

The end of the year is approaching and now I am sitting amongst maternity leave, it has given me the time to look into this space a little more closely and really think about what 2015 is going to bring for white blank pages and myself. I have been able to really brainstorm, get inspired by blogging catch ups and working on specific projects for 2015. As my life is about to change dramatically introducing a new member to our family, I have decided to put all my plans out in the open to give me more motivation and encouragement throughout... what do you want to do when you grow up?

I recently featured on the beautiful blog Free Spirit Girl by Katie Pitsis talking all about finding your purpose (especially when you just finish school) and directing your career in a style that is right for you. If you are anything like me, I could not wait to jump out of school and start a career… I didn’t really care what career and changed my mind and Uni selections a million times.  I went through various phases of what I wanted to do and how I planned to get there. I had one common theme to my direction, I wanted to be successful.... Read More

personal branding, the WHY

As I continue to chat about personal branding. I felt I needed to dive a little further into the WHY. Why is personal branding so dam important? Why do you make such a fuss over something that seems and looks so corporate? Why is it relevant to me? When I was embarking into the corporate world I firstly had no idea about this whole personal branding business but I new I had to make a stance and impression in my workplace and in the market. I couldn’t relay on my academic alone to win me roles, even when I new... Read More
